Days 12 & 13 - October 24-25, 2013

Well, I am not sure if you would call the last 2 days bad days or just not as good days.  Logan is doing ok, don't worry but we have had some things come up that are a little more worrisome than we have in the past.  Yesterday the opthamologist was back to check on Logan's eye, I happened to get to the NICU right as he was finishing up so he was able to fill me in in person.  He said that he was not as pleased with the progress as he was last week and that he is worried about the risk for glaucoma.  He said that the blood was still there however on the positive side the pressure in his eye is better than it had been the week before.  He said that we are decreasing the number of drops he will be getting as he has been on them for a while now, not sure how that will affect us...  He is coming back sometime this weekend to check it again and then we may have to make a decision if little Logan is going to need surgery or not.  We should know more on this soon but lets hope that it clears up on its own and we won't have to make a trip to the Children's Hospital.

As of yesterday they moved up his feedings from 6cc to 9cc every 3 hours, however as of today he was having some issues digesting his food and they are seeing a lot of residuals.  They said that this is normal but something we need to keep an eye on.  There is a chance that this is related to an infection but we don't know yet.  They had noticed that his PICC line (which has now been moved from his umbilical cord to his leg) was red so they sent off some blood and urine for cultures to see if this may be due to an infection.  The cultures take 48 hours to grow so we probably won't know much more about this until Sunday, just in case they have stared him on antibiotics in case there is an infection so we can get a head start on it.  If he has an infection we will most likely have to stop the feedings and treat it before we can do anything else.  Besides his PICC line being red one of his other tests came back high which looks for inflammation, another sign there may be some infection but we will wait until the cultures come back.
My arm is free!!
His IV has been taken out of his right arm, there was some leaking so now they have to prick his heel whenever they need blood tests, however his arm looks so much better and more comfortable now not being restrained and held straight, he now has both arms free to move around!!  Both yesterday and today he was pretty active so he would open his eyes a bit, move his arms and legs and even make some faces.  He hasn't had much interest in holding Mommy's hand lately but hopefully that will just be a temporary thing...  He is peeing and pooping a bunch now which is a good thing we are told, I still can't get over the wrinkly little butt he has...cracks me up everytime!!

They weighed him again last night and he is still at 4lbs 5 oz, however I think this is more accurate now that the IV and splint are out of his arm and he doesn't have as many things on him so that may be where the difference is, but at least it is staying up and not going down.

We have made some progress on this breathing, they have weened him back down to 21% which is what we breathe and they are taking down amount of oxygen they are pushing in to him...he is still a little away from where we want to be to try the CPap again but I am hoping that in the next couple of days we will be able to give it a try.  Getting that tube out of his throat and being able to hear my baby will be a huge step forward.  There was a slight chance that I was going to get to hold him now that the IV is out of his arm but due to the pressure in his eye they doctor said we couldn't...hopefully that day is sooner than later...its getting really hard to not be able to hold my baby after 2 weeks...

One more day down and one day closer to him coming home!!
