Day 6 - October 18, 2013
Well, today was both a good day and a bad day for the Douglas household! On the good side, our lil man continues to make great progress!! He is still tolerating his feedings with no issues there. The Cardiologist came back today to check on his PDA valve which still wasn't showing any signs of closing, so they started him on the medicine that will hopefully do the trick. While he is on the medicine however they will have to stop feedings but hopefully they should start back up after he receives the 3 doses. If the medicine works, that will keep us from having to do a minor surgery so lets keep our fingers crossed on that one!!
He did have to get some more platelets today but otherwise his blood count looked good and he hasn't required a transfusion. As I have mentioned before, they have him all propped up to help his eye and his head, the nurses were kidding that when he gets home he is going to need a lazy boy because he is so used to being reclined like that. All they need to do now is give him a little remote! :) So, everything on the Logan front was good yesterday, thankfully! Here is a little picture of his feet...I sure love them and look how big they are...maybe babies are like puppies, the big "paws" mean they will be big boys (just like his Daddy)!

So now on to the not so good side of today...I had been having pretty bad cramping so I decided to make an appt with the doctor just to double check. They had me come in this morning for an ultarsound to get it checked out. As you may remember, when Logan was born the doctor had a lot of trouble getting my placenta out and we had to do a D&C to try to remove it all. She had mentioned at that time that I may have a placenta acreta which is basically where the placenta grows into the uteran wall. When she went in for the D&C she wasn't able to get it all which is why she was thinking that I was having the cramping. After looking at the ultrasound, sure enough there was a bunch of tissue / placenta still in my uterus. They ordered that I needed to have another D&C this afternoon. Of course this was the first day I had finally started feeling like a normal person...I did my hair, dressed nice and was really hoping to have a little date night with my husband...however that didn't get to happen! Instead we got to spend the entire day in the hospital waiting room, waiting for them to call me back. To say this was not what this emotionally and physically exhausted Mommy needed today would be an understatement, but after a mild (ok maybe not so mild) meltdown I just realized we needed to get it over with.
Finally around 3:30 I went back there, dressed in the hospital gown I was hoping never to see again and they pricked me another couple times trying to get the IV started. At about 5:30 they took me back for surgery. During the surgery they totally knocked me out and had to give me a breathing tube down my throat. I now have much more sympathy for our lil man, that thing was not fun afterwards and they also gave me the same sedation medicine that he is on. I can completely understand why it is so hard for him to open his eyes when he is on it...that stuff is intense!! The doctor said he was able to get pretty much all of it this time around and said that it was very good that I had called and come in. Had we not done this there would have been a very high likelihood of me hemorrhaging at some point which would have caused a lot more damage. We got home around 9:30, had some soup and then it was time to go to bed...
One more day down and one day closer to him coming home!!
Melissa, your daily progress updates on you and Logan are great! Ups and downs are part of life but you guys are definitely due more ups to balance things out! My thoughts and prayers are with you always, Paul
ReplyDeleteWOW...what a date night.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree... you did get a night 'out' by yourselves (a welcome break for us parents) but not EXACTLY what you had in mind, I'm sure. Hope you're recovering well and that everything from here on out is smooth sailing. Praying for you guys and sweet Logan! (and love those feet too!!)
