Days 14, 15 & 16 - October 26-28, 2013
Sorry for the delay in getting this blog post up for everyone, but the past couple days have been pretty eventful. I feel a bit like deja-vu to my post for last Friday, we have good and bad news, luckily the good news is around Logan and the bad news around me.
I will start out with the good news! We have finally made the HUGE step we had been waiting for as of this afternoon. Can you spot the difference??
That's right...we are officially on the CPAP and off the ventilator!! According to the nurse and doctor, he is doing really well on it so far. His oxygen continues to be at 21% and the nurses feel like he is much more comfortable now without the tube pulling his face one way or the other. Next big step is to get him off the CPAP completely and just using the tubular breathing device that puts the small plastic pieces up your nose (sorry I have no idea what the technical term is). After we get that done and he is on full feedings (which is determined by his body weight) he will be ready to move to the Intermediate Care Unit and will start learning how to eat, breath and swallow at the same time. Regarding his feedings he has gone up to 19ccs and still seems to be tolerating them well. However, I think I am starting to run out of the milk to keep up with his demand. They did say though that if it's ok with the Opthamologist, they don't see why I wouldn't be able to start kangaroo time!! Lots and lots of fingers and toes crossed that I will finally get to hold my baby in just a couple days!!!
The opthamologist came on Saturday and said that his pressure was down a little bit and wanted to keep an eye on it and will come back again on Tues or Wed for a follow up. At that point I believe we should know if Mr. Logan is going to need surgery or not. When I talked to the normal doctor today though, he thought that the pressure looked good so fingers crossed they are moving in the right direction.
The cardiologist also came by today and said that his hear looks good and there was no issues with pressure in his lungs. I guess the PDA has finally fully closed up and that is no longer a concern.
Now for the not so good news...as many of you may remember I had to have 2 D&C's one immediately after birth and another one last Friday. I had been feeling pretty good and by Thursday was actually feeling a bit like a normal person. Starting on Friday I began to get some cramping / contraction type pain similar to what I had before my second D&C, I didn't think too much about it and just kept on with the day. Saturday they started getting a little worse and by Saturday night it felt like I was having labor contractions. I took some pain medicine and figured I would sleep on it and hopefully by the morning it would be gone. Unfortunately, that was not the case, Sunday morning the pain had become constant, hurt everytime I moved and I would have major contractions on top of that to the point they hurt more than the ones I had during childbirth. We came in to see Logan and thought I might be able to find one of my doctors and just talk to them about it. While with Logan the cramping was non stop so Chris went out to the nurses station who immediately took me down the the ER.
We had to wait in the ER for about 30 min to go back and then once we were finally back there they were able to give me some pain medicine. After 2 batches of morphine and some dilaudid I was finally feeling a little better. After the doctor came in they said that it was most likely an infection in my uterus, Endometritis. They sent me to get an ultrasound as well and we found out that there was some fluid (they don't know if it was blood or not) in the Uterus and there was a fair amount of it. They quickly admitted me to the hospital and started me on IV antibiotics right away. When talking with the doctor this morning, they want to try the antibiotics and hope that it will clear this up on its own before looking any deeper into a possible D&C. If after the 48 hours of antibiotics it has still not cleared up then we may be looking at a bigger issue. I will be in the hospital until tomorrow afternoon most likely, lets just hope that it is the infection and the antibiotics will have knocked it out. In the meanwhile, at least I can go see Logan a bunch and I am spending the majority of my day sleeping from the medicine.
One more day down and one day closer to him coming home!!
