Days 20 & 21 - November 1-2, 2013
Guess who is 3 weeks old today?? I can't believe it, it feels like it has been a year, not 3 weeks but so glad we have made it this far with so much great progress.
Yesterday unfortunately did not allow me to go home. I had to spend another night in the hospital due to a fever that I got over night, however I think it was more from the blood transfusion than from the infection, but the doctors would rather be safe than sorry so they wanted another 24 hours of antibiotics. I was not very happy with this decision and yet another Friday night at Hotel Piedmont but I understood and if it could possibly keep me from having to come back I was all for it.
Being at the hospital on Friday did allow me to get to see my little man more and it was great to have a visitor. Andrea was in town so she spent the afternoon with me keeping me company and she got to meet Logan! He was making more great progress on Friday, they said they were getting closer to weening him off of the CPAP and onto the nasal cannula and hoping to have that off this weekend. The doctor told us that the ultrasound was completed on his liver and everything looked fine and that his eye was looking a lot better so hopefully we are moving forward with that. They are also working on weening him to an open crib bed instead of the incubator, they have to slowly decrease the temperature and make sure he is still able to keep his temp above 97.7. This means he gets to actually wear clothes now, check out his leisure robe below, it is actually just a newborn size shirt but it looks so huge on him! It really gives you perspective to how little he still is, we are going to bring in some preemie outfits for him tomorrow so hopefully he will have some more "appropriate" clothing soon.
I like my fancy robe!! |
Today I was finally released from the hospital and it is so nice to be home!! The doctor came in and released me at 8:45 by 9:45 we were back home, you think we might have been motivated to leave? We went back this afternoon to check on our little man and to our wonderful surprise he had already made progress on one of his weekend objectives...can you see the difference below? How cute is that face? I love that we can actually see his face now and I just keep falling more and more in love with it!!
Look who is finally showing us his super cute face!! |
They said that the pressure of air is still pretty high on the cannula it is at 7 since he was having a little issues getting used to the breathing in his new way and they will ween him 1 point ever other day until he gets to 2 at which point hopefully he will be breathing on his own. He has also made great progress on getting out of the incubator, he was at 27.5 degrees celsius and he needs to be at 27 which they will move him to tonight, if he does well for 24 hours he should be hanging out in the room with everyone else come Monday!! His feedings have moved up to 39ccs which is the max for his weight and seems to still be tolerating them well. Even with all this food his weight hasn't moved over the past 4 days, he is still at 4lb 5oz but at least he isn't losing weight. However hopefully he will start packing on the ounces here soon!!
It has been a great week of forward progress for our little man and for me, let's just hope we both keep moving in that direction... On a personal note, I want to also thank you all for all the wonderful comments, emails, phone calls, letters, gifts, everything you have sent our way. I know I have been bad at getting back to everyone personally and please don't take it the wrong way, they all mean so much to us and every time I hear from you all it makes me smile to know we have such wonderful people in our life. Thank you for all the support, we couldn't have done it without each and every one of you!!
One more day down and one day closer to him coming home!!
