We had a great day 4 with two full hour therapies in the morning and in the afternoon. Our first therapy was at 10 and we headed down to meet with Rebecca, our therapist for the day. We started off with some stretching which he was tolerating pretty well then we went right into putting on his AFOs and seeing if he could do some weight bearing for the first time. He did great! We then let him crawl over to the swing so we could work on some core strength and see how he did holding himself up while moving. We did a couple of different types of swings, standing, kneeling, sitting on the edge and he did them all without any fussing, actually did them with lots of laughs. After that we did a bit of catching and throwing on the peanut again to work on that core strength and stability.
Reach up!
Swing...
When we did our last intensive therapy one of Logies favorite things was the ball pit and they had one at this gym as well. As soon as he saw it all we heard was balls, balls, balls so we decided to make a little work out of it. We had him side step all the way around the ball pit until we finally let him get in. The amazing thing I noticed here was how big / wide his steps were, before the spasticity made it hard for him to move his leg to the side that way but now I think he almost shocked himself at how far it would go.
Daddy learning how to help him walk around!
FINALLY!!!
Where's Logie??
I am still here!
At the end of therapy, Rebecca asked us to bring his walker since he did so well in the morning she wanted to see how he did walking in the afternoon session. That was such great news to hear and I couldn't wait to see him take some of his first steps after surgery!! We took a little trip to the garden on our way back up to the room and then we headed back for some lunch and "headphone" time.
Our second therapy was at 2 and unfortunately we didn't get a nap beforehand...we were a little concerned at how he would do but we had to push through no matter what! Since he may have been a little sleepy we wanted to try the walking part first so we put his AFOs on and went straight for the walker. It was just amazing to see how hard he was trying. He definitely does not have the strength he had before, he had to use a lot of his upper body strength to move around in the walker and Rebecca helped in placing his legs and making his legs straight but he was doing it!! He walked all the way over to the swing where Mommy got to swing with him for a while, he even tried climbing up on the swing all by himself and wanted to go immediately to standing up...hey we will take it! After that we walked back over to do some sit to stands with magnets followed by some time on the bike again. This time he got to race Daddy and he was just laughing hysterically all around the gym, it was great to see. We ended up our therapy session in you guessed it the ball pit but we thought it was quite a successful day. Rebecca was so impressed at how well he did and she really feels like he is going to make such huge strides going forward!!
Our first time back in the walker!
Hi Elmo!
Letters and Animals, my favorite!
My happy place!
We got back to the room and Logie was exhausted!!! He fell right to sleep and had a nice little 2 hour nap. We had a pretty quiet afternoon and by about 7:30 Daddy was ready for bed after his long night the night before so he headed back and Gammy and I hung in the room with Logie. They were supposed to have some more fireworks so we decided to go on a little excursion up to the gardens again and check them out. We did some swinging and the best part was hanging in our little circles, I think Logie just loved getting out of the stroller and getting to play a little more. We did some singing and watching fireworks and best of all were the belly laughs that came out from all three of us it was just a great evening and Logie is definitely completely back to his old self.
Selfie on the swing!
Deep conversations!
I just love that little face...
We gave Logan a little sponge bath and did some stretching when we got back hoping it would help with the spasms and help him sleep through the night. I stayed over with him tonight and we had a GREAT night, he slept through the night with barely any interruption (it may have helped that they don't bother us anymore)!! Today we have one therapy at 10, then we will get discharged and get to go home!!!! Our flight is at 4 and I don't think we all could be more excited to finally go home and get in our own beds. I know the work has just started and we will have to continue it all when we get home without the help of the nurses and therapists but we are up for the challenge, it is nothing compared to the work Logie is doing everyday!!
Thank you all for the continued prayers, they are working and we will definitely still need them when we get home that he continues to progress and that we are all able to get accustomed to this new schedule and routine. Lots of love to you all! XOXO
Our sleep deprivation and stress was all worth it ... Logie is our super hero, nursers, doctors, PT all said he was their favorite with his infectious laugh, smile and perseverance through it all! Love and gratitude to all our Prayer Warriors!
4 weeks is so tiring!! Our little man is officially 4 weeks old now! It is amazing how far he has come and how much he looks like a little baby now. The past 4 weeks have definitely been hard ones but it is reassuring to see how far he has come and I know we still have a little ways to go but we have made great progress so far... Things continue to be pretty stable with Logan over the past couple of days, we are still on the nasal cannula and at level 7, so no big movement there. We think that some of this has to do with the fact that he had to be intibated for so long, but the doctor is trying him on some diuretics to see if that may help as well. He said there is a chance that there is some fluid in his lungs causing it to be a little harder for him to get stable on his breathing so fingers crossed that will work, it seemed to be a little better yesterday. As of Thursday night he is weighing in at 4lbs 14.5oz so we are almost to 5 pounds....
Logan holding Daddy's finger! Another good day in the world of Logan! The most exciting part of our day is that as of last night, they were able to totally ween Logan off his Dopamene (it was regulating his blood pressure) which in turn means Logan got his first meal this afternoon!! They said that he took it really well and didn't have any spit up which was a great sign so hopefully this is just the beginning and we will be able to continue this going forward! (now if only my milk will come in so I can feed him!) Besides that, the cardiologist came in again today and the PDA valve that I mentioned before still hasn't closed. They are going to check it one more time on Friday and if there is still no progress they will try using medicine to close it. We are hoping this will work but if not he will have to have a little procedure where they will go in through his back to manually close it off. Logan's Home Away from Home! When we were there...
Just chillin' at the beach! Hi everyone, I am sorry for not writing earlier but things have been pretty busy for us. There seems to be so much that happened over the last week and a half I am not quite sure where to start! I guess first of all, when Logan went to the doctor almost 2 weeks ago for his check-up we found out that he has broken his first tooth!! He had been so miserable and not wanting to be touched that we didn't even realize this had happened. Poor thing, no wonder he was so upset, breaking a tooth and steroids...I wouldn't want to be touched either!! At that doctors appointment we also found out that Logan's blood pressure was a little high, the doctors weren't overly concerned as it is a common side effect of the steroids and the following day was going to be our last day of high dosage shots. By this point he had gained about 2 pounds since starting treatment and he definitely looked very uncomfortable and his skin had become so ...
