Day 2

Silly boy!

Well, unfortunately our hope for a peaceful night did not come true and we had a bit of a rough evening last night.  Logie was great all day on Day 1, never took a nap, but ended up falling asleep with Grandma's at about 9 while Mommy and Daddy grabbed some dinner.

Thank goodness for Grandma's, we LOVE you!!!

Thankfully, he slept soundly until about 12:30 when the back spasms started.  They came on slowly and started to intesify pretty quickly.  When we asked our nurse about it he said that this was very normal and they usually get worse before they get better so we went ahead and gave him some Valium which is supposed to make the symptoms a little better and to let him sleep better.  They continued on for about another hour or so, they were pretty small but very reminiscent of his old Infantile Spasms.  He would tense up his arms and pull them together and we could see on the heart monitor that his heart rate would go up to about 140+ so we knew when they were happening.  They would usually happen every one or two minutes and he started whimpering before the Valium finally kicked in.  Luckily by about 2 the medicine seemed to kick in and he was doing better.

Sleeping Angel!

On top of this we also had some issues with his catheter leaking, we noticed it earlier in the day and then around 3 we realized that his bedding was all wet.  So...what is better than changing bedding at 3 am???  EVERYTHING!!  :)  Finally after all of this we all fell asleep until about 6 (yay for 3 hours!), when we realized that he was uncomfortable again.  After some investigation we realized that his IV had come out a bit and the fluids were going straight into his arm...we took out the IV and put in orders for a new one.  Luckily they got here by about 8:15 and did an amazing job, Logie was asleep when they got here and may have been a bit out of it but no crying, no "I'm scared" and they IV went in easy and quick...thank goodness!  After that he was awake and in good spirits, asking for his Lion King and the spasms were just little tiny ones not bothering him too much.

Yummy Booty!!!

Since then we have had a great day...he has been in such great spirits, we had a sponge bath, ate some food, watched some movies, did some singing and just continued to being his happy little self.  We even got our first poop (I know not exciting to most but if it didn't come we may have ended up with some not so pleasant other options!).  We were able to get his catheter taken out so that is one less thing to deal with tomorrow and just enjoyed a fun day hanging out.

Not sure about this strange lady bathing me????

My little love!  <3

Best buds!!!

Fanciest hospital dinner EVER!!!

We have been warned over and over that tomorrow is the hardest day...that is when they take the epidural out and they start moving him around.  It is scary and it is exciting all at the same time.  He will have his first PTs (Physical Therapies) of his stay, the first being in the room at 8:30 to show us how to move him and get him into the wheelchair and the second in the PT gym that will really see how he is able to move and stand.  They say the kids are both in a lot of pain and they don't know what to do with the new "legs" they have.  Can you imagine if your legs were always tight and then all of a sudden they were loose as noodles?  I can't but we will see soon....I am going to hope for an easy, as pain free, day as possible but I know he will get tired easily but at least maybe I will finally get to hold my little boy again???

Please keep the prayers going as we go into this "hardest" day and thanks as always for all the wonderful thoughts, prayers and love headed our way.  Be back soon with our next update!!  Here is to seeing what these new legs can do!!!  :)
