Love this sweet boy!! |
Hi everyone, I apologize in advance for the delay in getting an update posted. Things here have been very busy and I just honestly haven't had the time to get on a computer! Over the last week we have had some good progress (mainly in the last day or so, another reason for the lack of updates).
As the title of this post suggests, we hit a big milestone yesterday, our little man has now DOUBLED his birth weight and is weighing in at a whopping 6 pounds 6.5 ounces as of today. It's amazing to think how far we have come and thinking of him at half this size seems like years ago, he is really starting to become quite the chunker (or at least we think so). I just love his little belly and his chubby cheeks, perfect for lots of Mommy kisses.
You talking about me?? |
Besides the weight gain we have also moved up to 4 bottles a day as of yesterday and so far we are doing really well. We had them move the feeding tube from his mouth to his nose as I had a feeling that it was impairing his eating ability and ever since that has happened he has finished all his bottles, 6 in a row now, so hopefully tomorrow the doc will move us up to 6 (then the last step is a move to 8!). He almost moved us today but Logan lost .2 ounces yesterday so he wanted to give him another day and add a little more food to make sure he won't keep losing weight before adding on the extra bottles. It is amazing how much work those bottles are and the stress to Mommy, I feel like the weight of the world is on us when we are trying to finish, I mean they are the key to us coming home!
Since we last spoke we have changed our bottle philosophy. After having some not so motivated nurses over the holiday weekend, I decided to take it into my own hands to get him to take his bottles. I think I finally got the hang of it and now I am trying to give as many to him as possible during the day (I mean I am going to have to do this when he comes home so why not get the practice) which means lots of time at the hospital for me (and very little time writing blog updates). Right now he is getting fed at 9's and 3's so I am going 3 times a day to do his 9am, 3pm & 9pm feedings and leaving the 3am to the nurses. Once they move to 6 I have a feeling I may just need to move in to the room with him...but whatever makes him come home sooner!!
On top of the weight gain and bottles we have also moved down to 1/2 on the nasal cannula...the last step before taking him off completely!! He seems to be doing really well and hasn't needed above room oxygen for almost 48 hours now...fingers crossed that they will be able to ween him off completely in the next couple days, I can't even imagine seeing him without something on his face, think that will definitely make Mommy cry! The oxygen / breathing has been quite a battle for us during this process and just knowing how far we have come and how close we are to getting off is just amazing and I am so proud of my little man for all the progress he has made!!
My little turkey butt! |
Over the Thanksgiving weekend we spent a lot of time with Logan and he even got a visit from his Uncle BJ! I think that these two are going to be good buddies in the years to come!! Also, Gammie Trish came back in town today and got to spend some time with Logan, he already has her wrapped around his little finger!
Oooooo....!!!! |
Love you Gammie! |
One more day down and one day (and 4 bottles) closer to him coming home!!
So glad to hear all Logan's good news. I can really see his weight gain in his precious cheeks. My daughter in law would just take snacks and lunch an camp out in the NICU waiting room when she wasn't n the room with the baby. That kept her close by and didn't have to make the trips to the hospital. It worked for her an she could also use her computer which kept her connected. I think you will like doing that and you get to do the bottles!
