Tomorrow...Really???
I believe I am still in a bit of shock that this is actually happening, after 2.5+ years of discussing this surgery with all of his doctors and therapists and months of planning and arranging, tomorrow is the day and Logie's life will be forever changed!! As a parent it is a scary, exciting, nerve-racking event to choose to put your child into surgery and intense therapy. The number of times you second guess yourself, the surgery, the timing, the doctor is totally overwhelming but I believe we have gotten to a sense of peace for everything and tomorrow will be the big day! Today was a big day on it's own, I think we were trying to make the most of our "mini" vacation before things got real.
Thank goodness for iPad's and Headphones! |
We arrived into town yesterday afternoon and got situated into the Chase Park Plaza hotel which will be our new home away from home for the next week (I think the hospital may be even more so but this will be home base for us adults). We had some fun at the grocery store playing the piano (which if you have seen previous posts you know he loves) and then came back for some "fingers" and Lion King / Guard before bed. Gammy was nice enough to let Mommy and Daddy go out for a little dinner and have some calm before the storm, but we couldn't stay away too long and soon enough we were all cuddled in bed preparing for today.

Today was a great day, I must say! We started it off with some pool time, Logan requested Daddy and Gammy to go swimming with him so of course they did (even if it was freezing)!! After swim we came back up for a quick nap as we had to head over to the hospital for pre-op. We got there right at 1 and went back with the PT, she did a bunch of testing and videotaping of him to see what he was capable of (our before sample as you will) and scored him on his abilities. She took some measurements of his movement range and gave us an overview of what to expect the next couple days. All in all we were there for about 1.5 hours, Logan wasn't overly cooperative but with some bribing we were able to get him to do most of what she asked. He even did some things I didn't know he could do which was super exciting. The best part about this whole session is that our PT kept saying how she thinks this surgery will be amazing for him and she is actually so sad she will be out on Mon and Tues (4th of July) so she won't be able to see his transformation for herself. Always helps make you feel a bit better about things (hopefully she doesn't just say that to everyone)! ;)

Who knew PT was a family affair? |
After the PT part of pre-op we went to meet with Dr. Park's PA who will be doing the surgery with him tomorrow. She went over health history, the surgery, after surgery a little more and just tried to get us prepared for what's to come. I have to say through all this I felt pretty good about everything and feel like they definitely know what they are doing. We also found out that we will be the first surgery tomorrow so that means a super early morning for us, have to be at the hospital at 5:45 and surgery is supposed to start at 7:30. Even though it is early we were relieved that we will be the first and can get it over with...the kiddos can't eat or drink before surgery so it is really hard if you don't go back until noon.
We came back from the hospital, had a quick snack and then we decided to check out Logan's FIRST movie!!!! Our hotel has their own movie theater in the lobby and they were playing Cars 3 so we thought why not. I have to say the loud noise was a bit scary for him at first but he warmed up to it. I got a couple of requests for Lion King during it but he sat through the whole movie, no fussing, no falling asleep so I am going to say that was a success! So excited we have that under our belt and this opens us up to new opportunities for movies going forward.
Action was nail biting!! |
Required family photo opp for our first movie! |
We had some dinner outside by the pool and then just came back to the room for a bath and some play time. Since he will be confined to a bed for the next several days we did some running and walking down the hallways of the hotel, I am sure all of our neighbors think we are insane but who cares, he laughed and walked all over and had a great time chasing all of us!
Boys hanging before dinner! |
So now it is off to bed, Daddy and Logie are cuddled up working on getting to sleep so we can rest before our big day tomorrow. I don't know how much sleep we will all actually get but we will do our best. Thank you all once again for the thoughts and prayers, we are going into this feeling surrounded by love from friends, family and even people we don't know which is a wonderful feeling. I am signing off for tonight but will be back soon with an update, please say an extra little prayer tonight and tomorrow morning for our little hero, love you all!
I'll be praying for all of you. What an inspiring story of love, perseverance, devotion, faith and courage.
